HMSHOST Establishes Culinary Intership at Port Columbus
BETHESDA, MD – HMSHost Corporation, a world leader in travel dining and shopping, today announced the establishment of an internship program for students enrolled in the culinary arts program at Bradford School in Columbus, Ohio. As a developer and manager of food and beverage brands in 114 airports worldwide and 87 travel plazas on North American motorways, HMSHost is well positioned to mentor students seeking careers in the airport concessions industry. The HMSHost internship program will provide participating Bradford School culinary arts students exposure to all aspects of restaurant operations. Each 12 week program will offer eligible students a well-rounded curriculum of training and skill building in everything involved in managing an airport concession – from casual dining and quick service restaurant operations, to food distribution, financial controls, Human Resources and airport security. “The Columbus Culinary Institute at Bradford School, providing an accredited, comprehensive culinary degree in a hands-on environment, is collaborating with Kirk Christian, General Manager of HMSHost, to create a customized 12-week Culinary Externship Program for our minority students,” said Michelle Hathaway, Director, Culinary Career Services/Community Relations, Bradford School. “We are excited to be a part of this project and look forward to building a long-lasting relationship with HMSHost.” April Wills and Roneka Prince have been selected as the first Bradford School culinary arts students to participate in the new HMSHost internship program. Ms. Wills and Ms. Prince will be trained and supervised by managers of HMSHost’s concessions at Port Columbus International Airport, working in restaurant brands including Starbucks Coffee, Chili’s Too, and Wolfgang Puck Express. “We are very proud to partner with Bradford School on this internship program,” said Joseph Waller, Vice President of Business Development for HMSHost. Our goal is to give these students hands on experience that will help make them the next generation of business leaders in Columbus.” Throughout the year, approximately eight students from Bradford will have the opportunity to participate in this internship with HMSHost.
