Goodwin Named General Manager At Rickenbacker International Airport

COLUMBUS – The Columbus Regional Airport Authority is pleased to announce that Charles (Charlie) J. Goodwin, A.A.E., has been named General Manager at Rickenbacker International Airport.

Goodwin, who will begin working at Rickenbacker in early April, has served as Airport Director for Terre Haute International Airport in Indiana for the past 13 years. Prior to that, Goodwin was employed by R.W. Armstrong & Associates as a project manager/aviation planner. Goodwin’s experience also includes working as a supervisor for Evergreen International Airlines and an operations manager for the Indianapolis Airport Authority.

“Charlie’s excellent background in airport management coupled with his experience in the cargo industry makes him a natural for this position,” said Elaine Roberts, President & CEO of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority.

Rickenbacker International Airport (LCK) is a full-service airport specializing in cargo. Cargo airlines serving Rickenbacker include FedEx, UPS, Eagle Global Logistics and Evergreen International Airlines. More than 184 million pounds – or nearly 84,000 tons – of cargo moved through Rickenbacker in 2002. Rickenbacker’s unparalleled geographic location, facilities and expertise give companies exceptional competitive advantages for attaining access to the global marketplace.

As Rickenbacker’s general manager, Goodwin will be responsible for effectively and efficiently operating the airport and overseeing coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration to enhance airport safety, security and operational procedures. Goodwin will also assist tenants and act as the community liaison for Rickenbacker issues.

Goodwin’s love of aviation began when he served four years as a naval air crewman for the United States Navy. After military service, Goodwin graduated from Indiana State University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Technology and has since earned his private pilot’s certificate. He is a board member with the Aviation Association of Indiana and is active with the Naval Air Force Reserves.
